Length Converter: Metric & Imperial Distance Units

Convert common metric, US customary, Imperial, and nautical length units through exact metre-based relationships, with a complete equivalents table.

Exact metric and international relationships

The metre is the SI base unit of length. Metric prefixes scale it by powers of ten, so one kilometre is exactly 1,000 metres and one centimetre is exactly 0.01 metre.

The international inch is exactly 0.0254 metre. Feet, yards, and international miles follow from that definition; a nautical mile is exactly 1,852 metres.

Distance units are not interchangeable

A statute mile is used for land distance, while a nautical mile is tied to navigation and is longer. The result labels both explicitly so a nautical value is never silently treated as an ordinary mile.
