Minecraft Stack and Storage Calculator

Choose Items → Stacks, enter the item quantity, and select how many items fit in one stack. Results update as you type. The main result separates complete stacks from the remainder and shows how many inventory slots are occupied.

A partial stack still occupies a full inventory slot. If you have 65 blocks that stack to 64, you need two slots: one for the full stack and one for the remaining block. The calculator applies this rule when estimating container requirements.

A shulker box, single chest, barrel, or ender chest has 27 slots. A double chest has 54, and the player's main inventory plus hotbar has 36. For items that stack to 64, a full shulker holds 1,728 items and a double chest holds 3,456. For items that stack to 16, those capacities fall to 432 and 864.

The calculator reports the number of containers needed, including a partially filled final container. The detailed comparison includes single chests, barrels, ender chests, and player inventory loads. These are direct storage figures; putting filled shulker boxes inside another kind of container is not included.

Open Material Lists to enter several resources for a build. Give each row a name, quantity, and stack size. The calculator shows the stacks and slots for each row, then totals the items, occupied slots, shulker boxes, and double chests needed for the whole list.

Different items cannot normally share a stack. For example, 32 stone and 32 glass require two inventory slots, not one. That is why the material-list calculation rounds up the slots for each row before adding them. Rows are also treated separately when their names happen to match; merge quantities into one row if they represent items that can actually stack together.

The total reflects the sum of the rows rather than treating everything as one interchangeable item. Use Copy result to move the breakdown into a building plan or a message.

Stacks → Items works in reverse. Enter the number of complete stacks and any additional items, then choose the stack size. Five stacks of 64 plus 32 loose blocks equal 352 blocks in six inventory slots.

If you enter enough loose items to make another complete stack, the calculator normalizes the result. For example, five stacks plus 64 loose items becomes six full stacks rather than an error.

Storage Capacity starts with a container instead of an item count. Select a shulker box, chest, barrel, ender chest, player inventory, or custom container; enter how many you have and how many slots in each should be reserved. The result gives the maximum number of one stack-compatible item that fits in the remaining slots.

Reserved slots are subtracted from every container in the chosen setup. This is useful when you need space for tools, food, or unrelated materials rather than filling every slot with one item. For ender chests, the calculator uses one shared 27-slot inventory regardless of how many ender chest blocks you own.

Many blocks and ordinary items stack to 64. Ender pearls, eggs, and snowballs are examples of items with a limit of 16. Tools, armor, and other non-stackable items take a slot apiece, so select 1 for those. The calculator does not infer the correct limit from a material's name; you must select it for each calculation or material row.

Custom stack sizes from 1 to 99 are available for modified items or servers. In Java Edition, the max_stack_size item component accepts values up to 99, but that does not mean ordinary items stack to 99 in vanilla worlds. For a modded or otherwise customized item, use the actual limit in that world.

Ender chests are access points to the same personal 27-slot inventory, even in different dimensions. You cannot increase that capacity by placing more ender chests. Shulker boxes work differently: each has its own 27 slots and keeps its contents when moved, so additional shulker boxes provide additional storage.

Player inventory loads assume 36 general storage slots: 27 in the main inventory and nine in the hotbar. Armor, offhand, and crafting slots are excluded. The calculator also leaves out bundles and nested storage arrangements, such as a chest containing filled shulker boxes. Vanilla shulker boxes cannot hold other shulker boxes.
