Stacks and partial stacks
Minecraft items use different maximum stack sizes. Most blocks stack to 64, some items stack to 16, and tools or other unique items may not stack at all.
A partial stack still occupies one inventory slot, so storage planning uses the ceiling of total items divided by stack size.
Container capacity
A shulker box has 27 slots and a double chest has 54. The calculator reports both exact full-container decomposition and the number of containers required when the final one is only partly filled.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a partial stack use a full slot?
Inventory slots hold one stack, even when that stack has fewer than its maximum items.
Can shulker boxes be nested?
Vanilla Minecraft does not allow a shulker box containing items to be placed inside another shulker box.
