Why There Is No Universal Grams-to-Cups Factor
A gram measures mass, while a cup measures volume. Converting between them requires information about the ingredient.
Different ingredients have different densities and packing behaviour. Granulated sugar settles differently from flour, rolled oats leave more air space, and honey is much denser.
The calculator therefore divides the entered grams by the selected ingredient's grams-per-cup reference rather than applying one generic number.
What Does One US Cup Mean?
This calculator uses the US customary measuring cup. One US cup equals 8 US fluid ounces, 16 tablespoons, 48 teaspoons, or approximately 236.588 mL.
A metric cup is commonly treated as 250 mL and is therefore not interchangeable with a US cup.

Why Flour Measurements Vary
Flour can settle and compact during storage. Scooping directly with a cup can pack considerably more flour than gently filling and levelling the cup.
King Arthur Baking uses 120 grams for one cup of all-purpose flour and recommends weighing flour for the most consistent result.
When following a recipe that publishes its own gram and cup equivalents, use the recipe author's stated conversion instead of replacing it with a general chart.
Decimals and Common Cup Fractions
The calculator displays decimal cups because a weight does not always convert neatly to a familiar kitchen fraction.
For example, 0.5 cup is one-half cup and 0.25 cup is one-quarter cup. Values such as 0.417 cup do not have a simple common measuring-cup equivalent.
Do not round too aggressively in baking. A small decimal difference can represent several grams, especially for dense ingredients.

Tablespoons, Teaspoons, and Millilitres
The secondary measurements are calculated from the cup result: one US cup contains 16 tablespoons and 48 teaspoons.
Millilitres describe volume, so the millilitre result is derived from US cups rather than directly equating grams with millilitres.
These smaller units can be useful for modest quantities, but a scale is usually easier and more repeatable for very small or very large ingredient amounts.
Precision and Rounding
Cup results are displayed with up to three decimal places. Tablespoons and teaspoons use up to two decimal places, while millilitres use one decimal place.
The calculation uses the full stored values before formatting the display.
More decimal places do not make an ingredient conversion exact. The practical accuracy remains limited by the reference cup weight and the way the ingredient is handled.
