Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Encode UTF-8 text or local files to Base64, or decode Base64 into text or downloadable bytes. Switch to URL-safe Base64 when working with links and tokens. Invalid characters, padding, and malformed UTF-8 are reported rather than guessed.
Base64 workspace
Encode text or a file, or decode Base64 back to text or bytes.
How to decode Base64
Select Decode, paste Base64, and run the conversion. Readable UTF-8 appears in the result. If the decoded bytes are not valid UTF-8, download the binary file instead.
The decoder accepts spaces and line breaks in the input but rejects malformed alphabets, padding, and unused bits.
Encode text or a file
Select Encode, type text or choose a local file up to 2 MB, and run the conversion. Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes first. A file is encoded from its original bytes.
Copy the Base64 result or download it as a text file. The selected file stays in your browser.
Standard Base64 and Base64URL
Standard Base64 uses + and / with optional = padding. URL-safe Base64 uses - and _ instead, and this tool omits padding when encoding in URL-safe mode.
Choose URL-safe mode when the encoded data belongs in a URL or token. The decoder checks the selected alphabet rather than silently mixing both forms.
Base64 is not encryption
Anyone can decode Base64. It is a way to represent bytes using printable characters, not a way to protect secrets.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I decode Base64 to text?
Select Decode, paste the Base64 string, and run the conversion. Valid UTF-8 text appears in the result.
Can I encode a file?
Yes. Select Encode and choose a local file up to 2 MB. The tool converts its bytes to Base64 in your browser.
What if decoded data is not text?
The tool preserves the decoded bytes and offers a binary download when they are not valid UTF-8.
What is URL-safe Base64?
It replaces + and / with - and _. This tool also omits padding when encoding in URL-safe mode.
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Anyone can decode it without a key.
