How to make a QR code that scans reliably
Choose the content type, enter the information, and scan the live preview before downloading it. A URL QR code should use the final HTTPS address. A Wi-Fi QR code needs the exact network name, security type, and password. Contact, email, phone, SMS, and location codes use structured data so a compatible scanner can offer the correct action.
Keep the pattern darker than its background and leave a clear quiet zone around all four sides. The generator warns when contrast or margin choices may reduce scan reliability. Test the finished code with more than one phone, especially before printing a large quantity.
Static QR codes and what they contain
This generator creates static QR codes. The destination or text is encoded directly in the image, so the code does not require an Olivez account, redirect service, or expiry date. A downloaded code continues to work as long as the encoded information remains useful.
Static codes cannot be edited after download. If a website address, Wi-Fi password, phone number, or contact record changes, create and replace the QR code. Analytics and editable destinations require a managed redirect service and are intentionally outside this tool.
QR code error correction
QR codes include error correction that can reconstruct part of the symbol when it is dirty or damaged. Levels L, M, Q, and H provide progressively more recovery at the cost of a denser code. M is a practical default for an unmodified code.
Use H when placing a small logo in the centre. Error correction improves tolerance, but it does not make every design safe. Avoid covering finder patterns, enlarging the logo, removing the margin, or using similar foreground and background colours.
PNG or SVG for a QR code
PNG is a raster image suited to documents, social posts, slide decks, and common office software. Choose an output size that is larger than the intended display size so resampling does not soften the square modules.
SVG is a vector format suited to print layouts, signage, packaging, and design software. It can be resized without pixelation. Some upload systems accept PNG but reject SVG, so keep a tested PNG copy when the final publishing platform is unknown.
Printing and sizing a QR code
There is no single minimum print size for every QR code. Required size depends on data density, viewing distance, camera quality, surface, lighting, and print accuracy. More encoded data creates more modules and usually needs a larger physical symbol.
Print a sample at the intended size and scan it from the expected distance. Preserve the white space around the code, use a flat non-reflective surface when possible, and avoid folds or seams through the finder patterns in three corners.
Safe use of QR codes
A QR code can hide its destination from the person looking at the printed symbol. Label the expected action near the code and use a recognizable domain for public links. People scanning a code should review the previewed address before opening an unfamiliar site or entering personal information.
Do not place private Wi-Fi credentials, confidential contact data, or access tokens in a QR code that will be shared publicly. Anyone who can photograph the symbol can recover its contents.

Do QR codes created here expire?
No. The QR image itself does not expire because it stores the content directly. A code can stop being useful if its website is removed, its Wi-Fi password changes, or another encoded detail becomes outdated.
Can I edit a QR code after downloading it?
No. A static QR code cannot be edited without generating a new image. Keep the source information and replace the code if its destination or details change.
Which error correction level should I use?
Use M for a standard code with no centre logo. Use H when adding a small logo or when the symbol needs more damage tolerance. Higher correction makes the pattern denser, so always test the final design.
Why is my QR code difficult to scan?
Common causes include low contrast, a missing quiet zone, a code printed too small, excessive data, blur, glare, distortion, or a logo covering too much of the symbol. Return to dark pattern colours on a light background and test at the final size.
Should I download PNG or SVG?
Use PNG for common digital and office workflows. Use SVG for professional print or design work that requires scaling. Both files contain the same QR payload when generated from the same settings.
Can a QR code connect a phone to Wi-Fi?
Compatible phones can read a Wi-Fi QR payload and offer to join the network. Enter the network name and password exactly, select the correct security type, and test the result on the devices your visitors use.
Is it safe to put a logo in a QR code?
A small centred logo can work when high error correction is enabled and the finder patterns remain untouched. It still removes usable data modules, so scan the exported file on several devices before publishing it.
How do I scan a QR code with a phone?
Open a compatible camera or code scanner, place the whole symbol inside the frame, and follow the detected action. Review a link destination before opening it, particularly when the printed code or source is unfamiliar.
Does Olivez store the information in my QR code?
