Calculate an SLA Deadline from Hours
Enter a local start date and time, then provide the number of hours allowed by the SLA or deadline rule. The calculator can add those hours continuously or count only minutes inside a weekly business schedule.
The result includes a formatted deadline, its exact UTC ISO timestamp, the total time counted, and an audit summary explaining the schedule and major skips that affected the answer.
This is useful for support response targets, incident resolution times, internal approvals, review windows, service commitments, and other hour-based deadlines where nights, weekends, or closures may not count.
Elapsed Hours vs Business Hours
Elapsed-time mode treats the clock as continuous. A 24-hour deadline starting Friday at 3:00 PM ends Saturday at 3:00 PM, regardless of office hours or holiday entries.
Business-hours mode advances only inside the selected working days and daily opening window. Closed periods are skipped rather than subtracted after the calculation.
The correct mode depends on the exact wording of the agreement or policy. Calendar hours, elapsed hours, business hours, working hours, and business days are not interchangeable terms.

How Start Times Are Aligned
In business-hours mode, a start that already falls inside an open window begins counting immediately. A start before opening is aligned to that day’s opening time.
A start at closing time, after closing, on a non-working day, or on a supplied holiday advances to the next eligible opening. The effective counting start is included in the audit whenever it differs from the entered start.
A zero-hour calculation is not moved to the next opening. With no duration or paused extension to add, the entered start remains the deadline.

Custom Working Days and Business Window
Choose the weekdays on which the clock is allowed to run. Monday through Friday is the default, but weekend or regional workweek patterns can be selected when required.
The same opening and closing time is applied to every selected day. The closing time must be later than the opening time, so overnight schedules that cross midnight require a different model.
When the remaining SLA time reaches the exact end of an open window, the deadline may be equal to the configured closing time.
Holiday and Closure Dates
Enter holidays, company shutdowns, or one-off closure dates manually using YYYY-MM-DD. Several dates can be separated with commas, spaces, semicolons, or line breaks.
Each date is validated before calculation. Duplicate dates are collapsed, and a supplied holiday affects the deadline only when business-hours mode reaches that local calendar date.
Public holidays are not universal: they vary by country, region, office, service team, and contract. Manual dates prevent the page from silently applying the wrong calendar, but they also make the user responsible for complete coverage.
How Paused Time Is Applied
Paused time adds an aggregate extension to the required duration. For example, a 4-hour SLA with a 1.5-hour paused-clock allowance requires 5.5 counted hours.
In elapsed mode, the extension is added as continuous elapsed minutes. In business-hours mode, it is added as additional working minutes inside the selected schedule.
This does not model the real timestamps of a pause. A policy that treats pauses differently when they overlap nights, weekends, or closures may require event-level calculation rather than one aggregate number.
Timezone Display Does Not Change the Schedule
The start field is a local date and time without an embedded timezone. The calculator interprets it in the browser’s current local timezone and applies the business schedule in that same timezone.
After the deadline is calculated, the display selector can show that exact instant in UTC or another listed timezone. This conversion can change the visible date, time, and weekday, but it does not rerun the working schedule in the selected location.
For an SLA governed by another office’s local schedule, calculate from a device configured to that schedule timezone or use a system that explicitly supports timezone-based business calendars.
Daylight Saving Time and Timezone Data
Business windows are created with the browser’s local date and time rules. Daylight-saving transitions can change the relationship between wall-clock time and elapsed real time, particularly for unusual schedules that include transition hours.
Timezone rules can also change after government decisions. The displayed conversion depends on the IANA timezone data available to the browser and operating system.
High-stakes deadlines near clock changes should be checked against the authoritative system, contract, ticket platform, or official filing rule that governs the deadline.
Calendar Export and Verification
The calendar button downloads an iCalendar event for the calculated instant and includes the audit summary in the event description.
Calendar applications normally display an absolute event in the calendar’s configured timezone. Confirm the imported date and time after opening the file, especially when sharing it with people in other regions.
An exported event records the calculated result; it does not prove that the selected schedule, holidays, pause policy, or SLA interpretation was correct.
Where This Calculator Should Not Be the Final Authority
Legal, court, tax, regulatory, employment, procurement, notice, and filing deadlines often use special counting rules, observed holidays, service rules, cutoff times, and jurisdiction-specific exceptions.
Real SLAs may depend on ticket priority, customer plan, incident status, maintenance windows, customer-response pauses, escalation rules, or separate acknowledgement and resolution targets.
Use the calculator to test a clearly defined rule. Confirm the final answer against the governing agreement, policy, official calendar, or professional advice when consequences are significant.
SLA Deadline Calculation
The duration and paused extension are converted to whole minutes. Elapsed mode adds those minutes directly. Business-hours mode accumulates only eligible minutes inside the selected schedule until the same total has been counted.

What is an SLA deadline?

Can different weekdays have different hours?
No. One opening and closing time is applied to every selected working day.
Can I use an overnight shift?
No. The workday end must be later than the workday start on the same calendar date.
Can I model lunch breaks or split shifts?
No. The calculator supports one continuous open window per selected day.
How are holidays entered?
Use valid YYYY-MM-DD dates separated by commas, spaces, semicolons, or new lines. Invalid dates are rejected before calculation.
Are public holidays added automatically?
No. Enter the closure dates that apply to the relevant team, office, service, contract, or jurisdiction.
How is paused time applied?

Can I enter exact pause start and end times?
No. This version accepts only a total paused-hour extension.
What happens when the start is outside business hours?

Can a deadline occur exactly at closing time?
Yes. A deadline can equal the configured closing time when the remaining minutes exactly fill the open window.
What happens when the total duration is zero?
The deadline equals the entered start in both modes because there are no minutes to count.
Does the calculator account for daylight saving time?
It follows the browser’s local Date and timezone rules. Verify high-stakes deadlines near clock changes because wall-clock schedules and elapsed time can interact differently.
What does the ISO timestamp mean?
It is the calculated instant written in UTC using ISO format. It remains the same when the display timezone changes.
What does the calculation audit show?
It summarizes the minutes counted, schedule, effective start adjustment, and closed or holiday dates crossed. It is not a complete SLA event log.
What does the calendar download contain?
It creates an .ics event titled SLA deadline at the calculated instant with the audit summary in the description.
Are my SLA dates uploaded?
No. Calculation and calendar-file generation occur locally in the browser.
Can I use this for a court or legal filing deadline?
Do not rely on it as the final authority. Legal deadlines can use jurisdiction-specific holidays, service rules, cutoffs, and exceptions that this calculator does not determine.
Can this prove that an SLA was met?
No. It does not retain ticket events, policy versions, pause timestamps, source data, or an independently verifiable record.
